M Todd Wheeles has been practicing law in Alabama for the last 20 years. Before he was an attorney he worked as an Alabama state trooper, where he became proficient in investigating traffic accidents. During his tenure with the Troopers, Todd served in a Special Operations platoon and on the State Trooper Honor Guard. By 1996, Todd had joined the Alabama Bureau of Investigations, where he served as a polygraph examiner, a hostage negotiator, and a case agent in the Major Crimes division and was named “Agent of the Year” in 2001.
Todd Wheeles is an active member of the Alabama State Bar, the Alabama Association for Justice, the American Association for Justice, the Southern Trial Lawyers Association, and the Birmingham Bar Association. He was also appointed to act as Legal Counsel to the Alabama Board of Polygraph Examiners by Governor Bob Riley.
Todd is one of the attorneys on the National Trial Lawyers’ Top 40 Under 40 list for Alabama, a singular honor. His recent accomplishments include a $239 million settlement in the firearm defect class action, Carter v. Taurus, et al. He also achieved a confidential $7 million settlement in Fulton County, Georgia, a $1.25 million verdict in Etowah County from an unintended gun discharge case, and a $4.5 million verdict in Calhoun County related to a Legionnaires’ disease contraction case. Before starting Wheeles & Garmon, Todd had been a partner at his previous firm since 2009. He co-founded the Wheeles Garmon firm in 2023.
